I have spent most of my time on the blog posting about energy sources that most people are familiar with, like solar, wind, and water power. Now I want to switch gears and talk about a energy source that many people know nothing about, Biomass. For a biomass power station making electricity, it's pretty much like a fossil fuel power station:
With the process of biomass we can use rubbish, animal manure, woodchips, seaweed, corn stalks and other wastes to produce energy. So when anyone hears about a new energy source they automatically think about the pros and cons. The pros of biomass energy are It makes sense to use waste materials where we can, the fuel tends to be cheap, and less demand on the fossil fuels. Using waste for energy can also have a huge beneficial effect on the environment, by putting the waste we create to a use. The cons surronding collecting or growing the fuel in sufficient quantities can be difficult, we burn the biofuel, so it makes greenhouse gases just like fossil fuels do, some waste materials are not available all year round. Each of these cons present a topic that researchers should spent more time looking into because it seems to me that biomass energy could very well become a great thing for America.I found a video that explains more about biomass energy. This video was created by The Profiles Series. Which is an award winning television series. Their mission is to create quality programming which will inform, educate and enlighten our viewers both nationally and internationally. They cover a variety of topics ranging from health and medical to business, and environmental.
